professorhiggs:

This was atrociously written.

That bad?

-sighs and throws the paper aside- That bad, Charles. I wonder if you get essays as horrid as this.

-grins- Usually only from the first years. -steps inside and nods to the papers- On a scale of mildly offensive to atrociously idiotic, what would these papers rate?

josephinemarat whispered, "Okay sir. -smiles- goodnight."

Goodnight. -closes the door after her-

josephinemarat whispered, "Alright sir. -nods- I'll remember that. I don't want to be inhuman either. -smiles and stands up- I'll see you around alright sir? It's getting late and thank you so much for this. I really appreciate it. -grins and shoves a box of chocolates on his desk- Really!"

Of course. Owl me, if you want to set up a time to train. -gets up to show her to the door- And Miss Marat? Try to be careful.

josephinemarat whispered, "So this profession means I have to let go of any emotions then. -blinks- What's it like to kill sir? Not that I would do such a thing but often times, it almost becomes a necessity."

No. Never do that. If you do that, then it doesn’t matter any more. If you let go of your feeling about others, you’ll stop caring about yourself soon. I’ve seen men on the battlefield. They become so dead to everything, they don’t care if they die. -shakes his head- Maybe sometime, Miss Marat, but not today.

josephinemarat whispered, "Yes sir. -nods, though she can't help but worry- Didn't it bother you sir? Watching people die before you?"

Yes. No sane person enjoys death. You do it because you have to. I was drafted, but I would have went anyway. Because you hope, you pray, that by killing someone, you’re saving another thousand. And the people killing you? They hope the same.

josephinemarat whispered, "Will you? -eyes brighten- Yes sir, I read about those stories as well. Inferi, possessed jewels, inscriptions that could burn your eyes and leave you dead in a tomb. I don't care if I have to do those rigorous training, really I don't. I don't care if you're not going to be soft on me sir."

I saw this man with my own eyes. Brilliant man. Had a great future ahead of him. His arms are still slowly rotting away. This is what you’re in for, Miss Marat. -gravely- I won’t be training you to fight. You can go to a gym for that and they’ll tell you you’re doing well, and you have a nice kick, and oh wasn’t that hit clean. I’ll be teaching you how not to die. Because dying is a very real possibility out there. Do you understand?

josephinemarat whispered, "I want to be a curse breaker. -swallows- I figured, there are muggle graverobbers as well, and I just want to be prepared. It's just the ideal place for me sir, I can't be limited to one profession. I like adventure. I'll do anything to pass the test."

-studies for a moment- Yes, you’d be well suited to the profession, I think. You’re a smart young woman, I assume you know the magical dangers associated with it. I once knew a man whose hands had rotted off while breaking into an ancient tomb. -nods- I can help you, Miss Marat.

josephinemarat whispered, "-shakes head- Not magically, no. I heard you served in the army you see."

Yes. In the second world war. I was also an Auror before I came here. -raises his eyebrows- May I ask why you want to learn?

josephinemarat whispered, "-nods and takes a seat across his desk- Sir, is it strange for a woman to ask you to train her how to fight?"

-looks at her curiously- From the phrasing of that question, I presume that you don’t mean magically?
